Medication Tracking Guide

Managing Family Medications

The medication tracker helps you manage prescriptions, track refills, and never miss a dose.

Adding a New Medication

  1. Go to Health > Medicine tab
  2. Click + Add Medication
  3. Check if it's a refill or new medication:
    • If it's a refill: Select the existing medication from the dropdown, enter the quantity collected, and click 'Add Refill'
    • If it's new: Leave as 'This is a new medication' and fill in the form

Understanding Dates

Collection Date vs Start Date:

  • Start Date: When you actually began (or will begin) taking the medication
  • The system calculates 'days remaining' from this date, not the collection date
  • This is important in the UK where you might collect prescriptions before starting them

Adding Refills

When you collect more medication from the pharmacy:

  • Option 1: Click the green 'Refill' button next to the medication
  • Option 2: Click 'Add Medication' and select the existing medication from the dropdown
  • Enter the quantity collected (e.g., 28 tablets)
  • The system adds the pills to your current supply and updates the 'Last refill' date

How Days Remaining Works

The system calculates based on:

  • Current Supply: Pills you have now
  • Frequency: How many times per day you take it
  • Quantity per Dose: How many pills per dose
  • Start/Refill Date: When consumption began

Example: Collected 28 pills on Dec 3rd, taking 2 per day:

  • After 2 days (Dec 5th): 28 - (2 × 2) = 24 pills remaining
  • Days left: 24 ÷ 2 = 12 days

Using the AI Pill Scanner

Save time with the AI-powered scanner:

  1. In the Add Medication form, click 'Scan Medication Bottle'
  2. Take a clear photo of your prescription label
  3. The AI extracts:
    • Medication name and dosage
    • Quantity and form (tablet/liquid/etc.)
    • Prescription number and refills
    • Pharmacy and doctor details
  4. Review the auto-filled information and make any corrections
  5. Click 'Save Medication'

Tip: Ensure the label is well-lit and not curved or blurry for best results.

Medication Display

Each medication shows:

  • Person's Name: Large and bold (who it's for)
  • Medication Name: With dosage
  • Schedule: Times per day and form
  • Days Remaining: Color-coded (green = plenty, orange = running low, red = urgent)
  • For/Reason: Why the medication is prescribed
  • Collected/Last Refill: Date tracking

Refill Alerts

Get notified when running low:

  • Set your alert threshold (default: 5 days remaining)
  • Medications below this threshold appear in the Refill Alerts section
  • Dashboard shows urgent refills needed

Managing Medications

Discontinue: When you stop taking a medication, click 'Discontinue' to move it to history (keeps the record but removes from active list)

Delete: Permanently removes the medication record

View History: Click 'Show History' to see discontinued medications

Pro Tips

  • Scan prescriptions immediately: Use the AI scanner when you collect from pharmacy
  • Set realistic start dates: If you collected today but won't start until Monday, set Monday as the start date
  • Use refill feature: Don't create duplicate medications - use the refill button to add more pills
  • Check before ordering: Review 'days remaining' before requesting repeat prescriptions
  • Update quantities: If you miss doses, use the refill feature with the actual remaining count
